Adoption News Round-Up
We hope you had a wonderful 4th of July with your friend and family! Here’s a round-up of some of the adoption news links you may have missed over the holiday weekend:
Many couples find themselves in this dilemma: what happens when one person in the relationship wants another baby, and the other doesn’t? Pregnancy expert Rosie Pope answers this on Parents.com.
Gay adoptions have been a contentious issue in the news as of late. While Russia has banned all foreign gay adoptions, Tasmania recently legalized gay adoptions. One step back, but one step forward! The legalization of gay adoption in another country means that many more children will have an opportunity to find a family, and we’ll never be disappointed about that.
Alicia Silverstone recently launched “Kind Mama Milk Share” a milk sharing service for mothers who can’t breastfeed, but want to feed their babies natural breast milk. While there are many opinions about this, Nick Shell, of Parents.com’s Dadabase takes a closer look at this program, debunking some of its criticisms.
Birth mother Monika wrote a guest post for the Infant Adoption Guide about 10 questions birth mothers hate. We’re a big fan of posts like this, because it’s so easy to accidentally offend a birth mother, adoptive parent, or adoptee, even when you think you’re being cautious or courteous. Log these away and share with friends!
When the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), they made a huge decision that impacts the adoption world as well. Foster Youth Intern Athena Madison pens a poignant post for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute about how this affects her and the adoption world. Pretty powerful stuff.
This is a horrifying story, with adoption as its saving grace and happy ending. Being able to provide children with a loving home, no matter who they are or what there situation is, is while we’ll always rally for adoption and be so proud to do what we do.
