Adoption News Round-up

Here’s a look at some of this week’s most interesting adoption links from around the web:

A new adoption book, The Rainbow Egg, teaches children about adoption by telling a story of animals on a farm…told form the perspective of the birth mother, which is a wonderful and interesting twist. This is a great way to communicate to your children the love their birth mother had for them when they chose to place them for adoption, which is a concept many adoptees struggle with.

Parents.com, which always has wonderful articles that guide parents for optimal interaction with their children, has just penned advice for how to boost your child’s development while playing with them. How rewarding to watch your child grow, all because you’re playing together!

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption just recently released two new surveys: one identifying shifting trends in adoption, the other surveying Canadian attitudes on adoption – both extremely interesting and illuminating.

A beautiful article by an adoptee: “Don’t be Frightened By My Anger, My Grief, Or Even My Love – It Only Means I’m Awake,” written by Rebecca Hawkes, who is an adoptee, an adoptive mother and a biological mother. Her recounting of her own emotional awakening is one not to be missed.

And finally, this is just amazing. Kids react to the controversial Cheerios commercial which has so many people up in arms because it features a transracial couple. The reaction of these children is beyond heartwarming.
