Adoption Celebration

Adoption Celebration!

We’ve noticed that a lot of our newsfeed this week has been filled with stories of families, adoptees and birth parents overcoming huge obstacles in adoption. It’s been so inspiring to us, and is a huge reminder of why we do what we do, and the kind of people we are so blessed with work with every day. So we wanted to do a little virtual “Adoption Celebration” where we post these stories and videos, in hopes of inspiring you and bringing you a little mid-week joy.

Fourteen year-old Ke’onte Cook surprised news anchor Gloria Campos on-air this week, sharing a tearful reunion with the woman who helped unite him with his adoptive family in 2009. Campos has been running a segment since 1989 called “Wednesday’s Children,” where she features foster children waited to be adopted. Over the years she has shared the stories of some 350 children, with a success rate of 75%.

This brave Kansas family had traveled to Ukraine to adopt four children when the Ukranian revolution struck, making what seemed like it was going to be a simple adoption process a much more stressful event. Although originally only planning to adopt one girl, Angela, through their process they met Angela’s friend Natalie, and Natalie’s siblings, Tatiana and Roman — all of whom they decided to adopt and bring into their family.

An incredible adoption task force, Extreme Recruitment “dedicates massive resources in a short period of time, 12 to 20 weeks, to find forever homes for longtime foster kids — often 12 or older — or large sibling groups who remain in the system.” Not only do they just find these children homes, but they go deep into the family trees of these foster children, often locating distant relatives who are able to adopt these children back into their own families. What an inspiring effort!

If these people didn’t already inspire you before, here are 30 famous individuals who were adopted. Adoptive parents…you may be raising the next President of the United States!

For all you moms who’ve had to listen to Frozen’s “Let It Go” one too many times over the past few months, here’s a version for you!
