Adoption News Round-up
We hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, filled with sunshine, relaxation, good food, and family time. To mark the beginning of the week, here’s a round-up of the adoption news that popped up around the web last week.
Chile is investigating reports that a priest there stole babies to be placed for adoption. The illegal adoptions go back to the 70s and 80s, and apparently the priest would tell mothers that their babies had died before putting them up for adoption. “Chilean investigative journalism center Ciper published a report last month saying that an unknown number of babies who were born to unmarried mothers were illegally given to other families. In some cases, the women were persuaded it was the best choice for them, but in others they were told the baby had died soon after childbirth, the report said.”
The author of the book Proof of Heaven–who had an out-of-body experience in 2008 during which he says he encountered an afterlife—also happens to be adopted! In this interview he discusses his adoption and what it was like to grow up adopted. All in all, he’s lived a remarkable life with a very unique set of experiences.
What happens if you go through an adoption, sign all the papers and have it legally finalized, and then a year later a judge overturns it? That’s what this couple is now experiencing. They lost their daughter, who they had adopted in 2008, in January of these year. Here, they sit down with CNN to discuss the details of their case.
A little insight from this woman on being the childless friend.
Not necessarily adoption related, but definitely parenting and health related! Here are 12 cereals that contain more than 50% sugar. I think we can all agree that a giant sugar rush is not the way our children (or anyone) should be starting the day. Labels are very tricky and are designed to be misleading…are these in your pantry?
What an incredible article. This woman shares how she went from an adoptive mother to a birth grandmother, helping her son to place his child for adoption. The world works in such mysterious ways, but the bottom line message is that love, support, and kindness should always be at the forefront of everything we do.
