Adoption News Roundup

Hey there! We’re hoping you’re all staying warm and cozy in what seems like freezing, blizzard conditions everywhere (or at least everywhere around us. If you’re not experiencing one of the many winter storms plaguing various regions of the country…we’re so jealous.) Here are some of the wonderful stories that are keeping our hearts warm this week.

Love this — two twins separated at birth reunite when they’re 27 years old. “Adopted as babies into different families, Anaïs Bordier, raised in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, and Samantha Futerman, raised in Verona, New Jersey, never knew about the existence of the other, until a YouTube video and Facebook message led to their reunion 25 years later.” Imagine a world where twins raised as far away as France and New Jersey can connect and and begin a sisterly relationship they could have never imagined. How inspiring!

What an empowering article from an adoptive mother raising a limb difference child. She shares her initial thoughts about adopting a special needs child, and then what it’s actually like raising one. And how it might not be that different at all. “He can climb a ladder, catch a ball and open anything he’s generally not supposed to have. He can put the smack down on his brother, snatch toys from other kids and dangle them enticingly out of reach till the other kid cries (I’m so proud). He most recently got in trouble for swiping my Kindle, slathering it with body lotion and pretending it was a baby. I have used many adjectives to describe my boy terror (some have four letters). “Handicapped” was never one of those words.”

A beautiful, thoughtful piece on infertility.

“We are a real family, thank you very much.”
