New Year, New Thoughts

Here we are, almost at the end of January 2012. The first month of the year is always an overwhelming one — bursting in on the wings of grand expectations, with promises of resolutions to be kept and changes to be made. Although this all usually wants to begin ASAP at the start of the year, it seems that once the hustle and bustle of holidays and and time off from school has slowed down, that it is actually not until the second month that we find those bits of time worthy of some much needed self reflection.

In light of that, we wanted to share a few questions with you to help spur some thoughts and reflection on your on adoption journey. Perhaps some really wonderful memories, or something may come up that will inspire you to change an aspect of your process if you choose to adopt again. We encourage you to share these questions with other friends or individuals in the adoption world, or even to use them as talking points to spark conversation.

1. What have you learned most throughout your adoption process in the past year?

2. If you could change one thing about your process, if at all, what would you change?

3. What do you think was your greatest strength throughout your adoption process?

4. Your greatest weakness?

5. What has surprised you the most about becoming an adoptive parent?

6. If you’re a birth mother, what has surprised you the most about your journey through placing your child for adoption?

7. What advice do you have for other people looking for adopt?

8. What do you wish someone would have shared with you before your adoption process?

9. What do you see as the greatest misconception about the adoption world?

10. Have you ever encountered someone who didn’t agree with adoption? How did you address it?

If you can think of any other questions that would be helpful to add to this list, please let us know! It’s something we’d like to expand, and it presents great opportunities to reach out to all of you and the rest of our community.

Happy Monday!
