April 14, 2011
A Note From Erin
April is a month that for my family brings so many mixed emotions. For starters, today marks the one year anniversary of the death of my sister and best friend, Dana, to brain cancer. In about 2 weeks, we will remember the day 15 years ago that my mother, Judi Schreck, died of breast cancer. Yet, we also are reminded of the blessings that this month brought as well, like April 7 which marked the one-year anniversary of my diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Six rounds of chemo, 20 radiation sessions, and a shaving party on Mother’s Day 2010 all mark my own personal journey with cancer. My one year anniversary was followed only two days later with my 38th birthday, a time when you reflect on all the things you experienced the prior year and make wishes for the year to come. My reflections brought both tears of sadness, but also tears of joy in knowing how blessed I was to have beat Lymphoma.
Not many people have the opportunity to make a profound impact in the way that I’ve been asked to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Campaign for Woman of the Year. The money raised goes toward the much needed research to help find a cure for blood cancers as well as helping to fund the programs that support patients like me and families like mine that are faced with this diagnosis.
Please help me take the title of 2011 LLS Woman of the Year by donating to my campaign: http://ia.mwoy.llsevent.org/ErinBarfels. Time is running out as the campaign ends in just a few short weeks. All donations help me get closer to my goal.
Please check out my facebook page for upcoming events that will help raise money towards my goal! Additionally, if you are interested in attending the Gala on May 21, where I’ll be announced as this year’s Woman of the Year (fingers crossed!), please contact me to purchase your seat or table! Limited space is available, so contact me today!
Join my fight to help find a cure for blood cancers!
Thank you!
