Kentucky Adoptive Mom Ordered to Pay Child Support
The past few weeks have been filled with news headlines about US/Russian adoption negotiations and an agreement the two countries recently signed. Under this agreement, the number of US adoption agencies accredited in Russian will be reduced, and independent adoptions between the two countries will be no longer be available.
This all came in the wake of a Kentucky woman who sent a Russian boy she had adopted back to Russia unaccompanied. She was hoping to annul the adoption because she said the child was violent, and a threat to her and her family. This whole situation has made the relationship between US and Russian in the adoption realm extremely tenuous, sparking deep outrage over the woman’s reneging of her adoption.
A month ago, the US ordered child support for the boy, which was just recently granted to the tune of $150,000.
While not everything is the way it looks from the outside, this woman has faced heavy criticism for her actions. What do you think about this situation? What could she have done differently?
