A Birth Project
There was an event in Seattle last weekend that featured the screening of a documentary about Daryl “DMC” McDaniel’s (Run DMC) adoption story, called “My Adoption Journey.” Although the event has past, it led us to the discovery of the really wonderful group who sponsored the showing of the documentary: the Adopted and Fostered Adults of the African Diaspora. They have a great website that provides lots of information about transracial adoption, as well as events that they sponsor and information about programs you can be apart of.
Writer, activist and playwright Lisa Marie Rollins was part of the event — she did a great interview with the Seattlest about the project, which you can read here, and she also runs her own website: A Birth Project, which offers insightful viewpoints and adoption-related event information about “transracial adoption from one black girl’s perspective.”
There are lots of great sites and information between these two individuals — wonderful resources for transracial adoption, and the adoption world in general.
