Here’s a sampling of what may come up.  “Where is he/she from? — I always find this funny since my children were born less than 100 miles away from where we live. Many people assume that children who have been adopted are either part of the foster care system in America or had to have come from another country. I even had one woman quite disappointed when I told her my daughter was born in Delaware!”

6 pieces of advice for young adults who want to adopt. “It’s likely that not everyone in your life will support your decision to adopt, at least at first. There may be questions and reservations. That’s ok. Find the family members and close friends who will give their unconditional support and hold them close. Think about the details of your adoption journey and don’t feel like you “need” to share all of them with everyone in your life. It’s fine to give general answers to most folks and save the details for the tribe that you trust.”
