Adoption Blogs Worth A Read

We love a good adoption blog. And for so many reasons. Primarily because when your family has come together through adoption, it can be difficult to find people who identify with your story, what it’s like to parent adopted children, or children who have come into your home after having endured extraordinary trauma. All children go through trying times, but there are certain things about being a family by adoption that don’t fit into the traditional narrative of “nuclear family.” And it’s so refreshing to read the stories of others and how they made their way through the various experiences that are more characteristic of adoptive families.

Here are a few of our favorite adoption blogs, ones we think are really worth the read. Some fun and interesting reads for the long holiday weekend!

Kristen Howerton’s Rage Against The Minivan is one of the best blogs out there. And as an adoptive parent of a multiracial family that includes two biological daughters, as well as experience with the foster care system and international adoption…she knows what she’s talking about. Her hilarious, witty posts address the very real aspects of parenting and family in ways we can all relate to. She also runs the incredibly funny Instagram account @assholesparents as well as the website Pinterest, You Are Drunk.

We adore Confessions of An Adoptive Parent for its honesty and candidness, and the intimacy with which Mike and Kristin talk about adoption and their family of 8 (!!) adopted children. They’re also book authors and travel the country frequently for conferences and speaking engagements, so they’re incredibly tuned into the world of adoption and adoptive families. Like with Rage Against The Minivan, we always feel true camaraderie when reading the Berry’s blog.

Lavender Luz is another one of the OGs of adoption blogging, having been around since 2007. She wrote a wonderful book with her child’s birth mother about open adoption, and is a passionate yogini who is constantly trying to bring better awareness to the adoption world. In her words, “I’m passionate about de-freakifying open adoption and ending discrimination against adoptees.” Her openness and mindful approach to the world is captivating and will immediately draw you in.

And finally, we have Stirrup Queens, the mother of all adoption blog rolls — comprising every blog in the world relating to adoption, infertility, parenting, loss, diagnostics, different types of families — the whole gamut. If you’re looking to find a niche community or blog relating to a specific adoption or family-related experience…it’s sure to be here!
