Adoption News Round-up

And here’s our round-up for the week…from the highly emotional tale of Batkid (read alone – you will cry!!) to two news stories that highlight the fears of adoptive parents, there’s a lot of news in the adoption world this week.

Did you hear about Batkid? This isn’t necessarily an adoption-related story, but it is probably one of the most heartwarming stories we’ve ever read. Five year old Miles saw his Make-A-Wish Foundation’s wish come true as the city of San Francisco transformed into Gotham and he was called upon to save the day!

Here is part 2 of the story we featured in our last round-up: “An American Girl in Seoul: A Story of Adoption and Acceptance.” We love hearing firsthand accounts of their experience with adoption from adoptees…it’s so inspiring!

The African Child Policy Forum is urging their country to tighten regulations on international adoption, calling for “greater investment in child protection schemes on the continent.” Worried about the loopholes in guidelines that people are finding, the group is seeking for better regulation, which will ultimately aid the well-being of all African children who may be up for an international adoption.

An incredible segment from the Huffington Post features interviews with biological parents about their decision to place a child for adoption. An important piece for all those involved in the adoption industry, as the side of the birth parent is often left under-represented.

Are you watching CBS’s annual adoption special this year? It’s on December 18, and Celine Dion is hosting!

What do you think…do stories like this hurt the efforts for finding good parents for children in need?

There are fears in the UK that religious couples are worried about discrimination when trying to adopt, and now the government is trying to put that at bay. What do you think? Are you part of a religious couple who worried about the affect your beliefs might have on your adoption?

To end on fun note — here are ten of Hollywood’s most famous adoptions! Do you have a favorite?
