Adoption News Roundup

This adoptive mama brings up a really unique perspective in her blog post: the power of reaction. Often times we focus a lot of energy on what’s being done to us, but what about our reaction events around us? Sometimes that’s the only thing we can control, and learning how to get a handle on that (and how to switch your mindset!) can be a truly powerful thing.

Another great piece from adoption.net talks about how to prepare a registry for your baby-to-be! This is a task that so many find overwhelming…what will you need? Where will you even begin? This article can help you prioritize and will likely give you some new ideas you hadn’t even thought of!

America Adopts posted an article about a situation that doesn’t get as much discussion from this particular perspective, and it’s actually quite interesting. It’s a guide for birth parents to know which adoptive parents are more likely to close their adoption, even if they’re super open and engaging at the beginning of the process. We’d love to hear from both sides of the table on this one. Birth parents, do you find this article to be correct? Have you experienced any of these behaviors from an adoptive family, only to have your adoption become closed? Adoptive parents, what do you think about what this article says, and did you find yourself moving from more open communication to a closed adoption as your process reached finalization?

This story is just incredible, and will absolutely bring tears to your eyes. Julie, a single woman-turned foster mother, opened up her home to children no one wanted: a newborn born addicted to drugs, a little girl covered in scabies who had never been fed solid food, even at a year and a half, and another little boy born addicted to meth. Her willingness to take on all these children at a moment’s notice, and to nurture and raise them in an unbelievably supportive, warm home, is beyond powerful.

This mother took the most unbelievably gorgeous photos of her one-handed daughter. Get ready to cry and fall absolutely in love.
