Adoption News Roundup

Here is a look at some of the links that caught our eye this week…

This inspiring couple shares their road to adoption. Though it certainly wasn’t an expected one, that doesn’t mean that it has been any less fulfilling. “Not everyone is open to open adoption, and I’m so grateful that both my husband and I chose this route to build our family. So, maybe Frost was right. Maybe we did take the road less traveled. But, while adoption is a less traveled road, it’s still at its core, just a road. And that really does, make all the difference.”

Adoption.net says you should never ever consider adoption for this reason alone.

This woman is on a crusade for adoption awareness, not in the form of an agency, but rather in an organization that seeks to address the issues confronting individuals before and after adoption. The Huffington Post is always a wonderful crusader for adoption and parenting rights. Recently, they ran an article about ominous trends in foster care. They say, “despite a general decline in the number of children in foster care, the family courts were requesting more volunteer advocates for more and more foster youth. Additionally, the children who had CASA and guardian ad litem advocates were coming from more challenging home situations. It is a sadly familiar pattern we have seen after previous recessions.” Read here to see what else they’ve identified, and their call to action for how we can make a difference.

Parents.com says the secret to getting your child to sleep may be right in their own nursery!

And to conclude today’s segment, another amazing post from Kristen Howerton, who details that one time she and her kids drank beer at a Target.
