Adoption News Roundup
Here’s a look at some of the interesting adoption news from the web last week:
The Chronicle of Social Change is running a wonderful series about former foster youth who have grown up and are now working to change policy. How empowering is that? Estakio Beltran “is currently running for a seat in the U.S. Congress where, if elected, he will represent over 650,000 people. His focus will be on research to spur job creation, to improve access to higher education for youth, and to create trade schools and training for those in the predominantly rural areas who are looking to take on more technical careers.” He credits his childhood, despite the inconsistency of twelve different placements and four different high schools, to propelling him toward this path. This is the first story in the series.
Have you ever thought about re-opening lines of communication with your child’s birth family? Sometimes contact can get lost in the shuffle…years go by, and maybe you or the birth family want to initiate more contact. This great adoption.net article talks about this particular situation, and what to do to change contact with your birth family.
