Adoption News Roundup

Here’s a look at the articles that caught our eye this week around the web!

We’re a transracial family so we definitely identified with this article, which talks about where to begin with haircare when you’ve adopted a black or biracial child. There’s so much great information here…a really valuable piece! (And trust us…your child will thank you for it.)

This adoptive mother, who has had to deal with all sorts of unsavory questions about why she and her husband chose to expand their family via adoption, shares some pretty powerful words. Who else has felt judged by outsiders, or even their friends and family, for becoming parents through adoption?

How do your children resemble you? Family resemblance is not just a biological thing…and this adoptive mother shares why. What special traits or mannerisms have your children developed that have become family traits?

Kristen Howerton of Rage Against the Minivan (one of our favorite adoption/mommy/parenting blogs) wrote a piece for Mommyish about how your parenting style changes once you have multiples. In her case, four. One of our favorite points? “We pretty much stopped with all the baby-proofing products. There’s always someone around watching anyway. “Kids, make sure your sister keeps the stuff on the floor out of her mouth.”

What sorts of genius disciplining tricks have you developed as a parent?

These seven parenting principles are ones to be embraced. Positivity, discussion, exploration, focus. We’re not going to say they’re effortless, but they sure do make a difference.

Six perks to being an adoptive mom…we love this!
