Birth Mother Stories
We noticed that a lot of people were posting stories about incredible birth mothers this week. Birth mothers who have bravely stepped up to share their struggle in placing a child for adoption by sharing what that process is like. Not only is perhaps cathartic for them, but it is incredibly powerful and informative for the reader, as there are so many misconceptions behind what goes into the adoption process for the birth mother. The more we are able to share their stories, the more we spread proper awareness about just what it means to give a child the opportunity to have the best life possible.
In this Huffington Post article, a teen mother shares what it’s like to be a part of a modern-day adoption and the open relationship she has with her child’s adoptive parents. Lisa Ling followed her story while she was making her decision, and then revisited her two years after the adoption had taken place.
We love this story from a husband whose wife is a birth mother. In this amazing article, he shares how his wife and her story changed his view on birth mothers and what it means to be one.
We can all assume that birth mothers have fears, but unless you’ve really been there, it’s impossible to tap into how frightening the whole process must be and what they really go through as they’re endeavoring to make their decision. This birth mother shares her story.
This birth mother, who was 18 when she placed her child for adoption, reflects on that decision — which she calls “one of the hardest decisions a mom has to make” — now at 57 years old…including the surprise twist that allowed her to meet her son 32 years later!
And here’s a great collection of videos from the Agape Project, sharing the stories of adoptive parents and birth mothers first hand. We can never get enough of these!
