Daddy Tales

Yesterday on the blog we did a small roundup of some “Mommy Tales,” stories shared by adoptive mothers around the web that inspired us. Some were funny, some were serious, all made a strong impact.

But adoption doesn’t only happen to mothers! There are so many wonderful fathers out there eager to share their story and perspective, and that’s a point of view we truly cherish. So as not to discriminate, today we present to you some of our favorite “Daddy Tales,” stories of adoption shared by the daddies of these lucky kiddos. We hope you find them as powerful and effective as we do.

Anthony Watt has penned a wonderful series for The Guardian that functions as an adoption diary from the father’s point of view. He shares candid information on everything from building attachment to how to convince your kids they’re “staying for keeps.” All are definitely ones to keep in your back pocket.

This new adoptive dad shares his story about meeting his son for the first time in India, while also admitting that he was entirely clueless about parenting (weren’t we all?) His intro warns that we shouldn’t take him too seriously — a humbleness we find pretty great.

An adoptive father opens up on the blog Pregnant With Hope, a blog for infertile couples. Joe and his wife went through a great deal trying to get pregnant, and many challenges that would shake anyone’s faith. But his story is one of empowerment, and he talks about how his spirituality became a key part in getting through the most difficult part of his family’s adoption journey.

Here’s an entire website devoted to adoption support, advice and stories. He has an absolute wealth of resources on adoption, fatherhood, infertility, IVF, parenting and reviews of books and products. Best of all, if you sign up for his emails, you’ll get a free e-book!
