More Info

James

I grew up in in San Francisco and love cities and being near the water. I spent lots of time in school and have a PhD in economics, which I use in my job, working to improve public health and the environment. I have traveled and read a lot. I started aikido when I was 11 and am an active member of that community. I love creative projects, such as painting and computer programming.

Robert

I was born in Peru and raised in New Jersey. I went to college in Philadelphia to study economics and Spanish. I started working on public education in Washington, DC, and still do, in California. I am really close with my friends and enjoy long conversations and great movies.

Qualified for Adoption

We’re on the journey to becoming first-time adoptive parents, with the support of our families and friends.

We are full of love and hope to welcome a child and their birth parents into our hearts and lives! Please let us know what you’d like to learn more about.

We have been together 12 years, are part of strong, diverse, and loving communities, speak English and Spanish, work from home most of the time, read a lot, and are always learning.

We know even considering adoption can be intense and complex. We seek an open adoption because we hope to maintain as much connection and communication as possible with anyone who trusts us to raise their child or their children.

We are excited we might be able to welcome a child or siblings into a loving, engaged, fun, and thoughtful home. We work from our home most days and have no children. We are open-hearted and friendly and we would provide a child or siblings with unwavering support and a nurturing environment!

About us

We met for coffee in Washington, DC, 12 years ago, after discussing our favorite authors online. We moved to California and got married in San Francisco, where we have family and friends. (In our extended family, there would be lots of cousins and four grandparents.)

We work hard, with many others, to make the world better. In our free time, we recharge by reading, walking, jogging and playing tennis (mainly Rob), or doing aikido (just James). We also often hang out with family and friends. For example, we have friends over for dinner most weeks. Rob picks great movies to watch (James is less systematic and has found some terrible ones). James does most of the cooking. Art enriches our lives (we both love museums and theater and James makes art and has been an actor). We travel when we can, mainly to stay connected with friends.

Get to know us

We both have been shaped, personally and professionally, by our parents and by our own serious efforts to understand and improve things. We each have a stong sense of self and purpose but we also are constantly connecting with and learning from others.

Robs says: “James is smart, encouraging, funny, adventurous, and curious about the world. He introduces me to new things—new foods, new ideas, new people. Even the bad movies he picks are interesting!”

James says: “Rob is loving, considerate, smart, eager to help, compassionate, open, funny, and direct. He picks great movies! He thinks about what makes people and communities strong. He loves tennis.”
