What Are the Qualifications for Adoption?
The home study may take up to six months to complete. Other requirements for adopting a child are a signed agency agreement and a completed adoptive family application.
How Should You Budget for Adoption?
You will have five main costs associated with adoption:
- Home study and post-placement fees: You pay these early on.
- Agency fees: This is the cost of our multiple service options.
- Legal fees: If you and the birthmother live in different states, you will need attorneys in both states. With our traditional service, you will only pay a fixed fee for legal help. If you select your own attorneys, costs vary depending on who you work with and your state.
- Birthmother expenses: Our adoptive families cover expenses for the birthmothers, and each one has different needs. You should budget what you feel you can afford.
- Travel expenses: You may need to stay in the birthmother’s state for a certain period until the adoption receives approval.
